Giovanni Cocco

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Giovanni Cocco was born in Naples on 16 January 1949.  He is a member of the Milan Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the Court of Cassation. Prof. Cocco commenced his legal career in Rome at Studio Lorenzoni. Subsequently in Milan he became a founding partner of Studio Ribolzi and later founded Studio Cocco Salomoni Santoro. On 1 November 2023 Prof. Cocco joined Studio Legale Padovan as “Of counsel”. He has a consolidated experience in judicial and extrajudicial counselling, assistance in litigation and arbitration. He acted both as Chairman and Arbitrator in arbitral proceedings.

AREAS OF PRACTICE
Prof. Cocco’s work focuses on the areas of administrative law, public economic law, constitutional law, environmental law as well as on local authorities and public service law.

EDUCATION
Prof. Cocco graduated with honours in Law from the University of Naples with a thesis on “General Government Policy Direction”. He has carried out his studies and academic activities at numerous universities. Prof. Cocco is the author of three monographs and has written over 60 articles. A member of Scientific Committee of several law journals, he is also a Scientific Director of the Law Section of the journal “Public Economics”. Prof. Cocco has participated as Chairman or Rapporteur in numerous Scientific Conferences.

SELECTED ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Over the years, Prof. Cocco has taught a number of courses on Institutions of Public Law, Administrative Law, Constitutional Justice, Parliamentary Law and Environmental Law at various Universities such as University of Milan, University of Catania, University of Insubria of Varese and University of Milano-Bicocca. Prof. Cocco has also held a course on Administrative Procedural Law at the School of Specialisation for the Legal Professions of the University of Milan. He has also lectured in numerous university Masters courses.

Prof. Cocco began his university career as a researcher.  He subsequently held the position of an associate professor and finally he assumed the role of full professor.
